Greetings,

I was meditating on Matthew 14 and again was impressed by the way Jesus dealt with feeding thousands of people. He had just heard that his relative, friend and the man that baptized him had just been beheaded and he wanted to take some time to mourn. He set out to a place where people would most likely not be but instead thousands were gathered and wanting his attention.

In the midst of his grief, he thought of others. The circumstances surrounding the death of John the Baptist meant that persecution was on the rise and the gravity of the message that Jesus was carrying had to be weighing on him as well. He healed, preached and fed the people before he finally was able to be alone with the Lord and grieve. After this time of prayer he walked on the water. The gloves came off and he was ready to get to work.

God wants us to be prepared to do work. He wants us to be compassionate and minister to people. He wants us to spend time with him and get ready for some serious work.

This Sunday is our annual special offering for Local Missions! It is an excellent Sunday to invite friends to come to fellowship with us, because they can witness that we are serious about doing work. We have a goal this year of $10,000. That will require sacrifice from all of us above and beyond our normal tithes. We raise this money in order to give to ministries that proclaim the name of Jesus locally as well as meet needs of people in our fellowship or community that the Lord brings to our attention.

Please take some time to pray about what the Lord is asking you to give. Yvonne and I will often pray alone about this and come together and talk and the Lord has always given us unity in what we give. Often times we come together with the same number that the Lord has laid on our hearts. I pray that we are all motivated to do what the Lord wants us to do and not be blown around by the wind, but in unity stand together for the sake of the Gospel.

Would you commit with me to pray and seek the Lord for opportunities to show compassion to people?

Love ya,

Chris

P.S. If you aren't able to be at church on Sunday, you can contribute to the special offering by giving online - just mark Special Offering in the notes section.  http://wayoflifefellowship.org/index.php/give
