Greetings,

In July 1863, images appeared in an article in Harper’s weekly, the most popular journal during the Civil War, that would widely alter the public opinion of slavery in this nation. The article was about Gordon, a slave that escaped and joined the United States Colored Troop soon after their founding, and served as a soldier in the North. The pictures of Gordon's scourged back provided people in the North with powerful visual evidence of the brutal treatment of slaves and inspired many free blacks to join the Union Army. This photo put a name and a face to the stories of abuse that was a reality of many people's lives.

Today there is a film out that is proving to be nearly as powerful as the story of abortion in our nation rises to the surface in the national debate. Unplanned has provided many people with a look at the harsh reality of the abortion industry. It should be obvious that abortion is a sanctity of human life issue, but the power of this film brings it into reality for people. The numbers of aborted babies is staggering and prayerfully this will become a chapter of America’s past soon.

I am not a political activist and I doubt I ever will become one. I am a minister of the gospel and as I look at this issue of abortion, I see it from the perspective of many hurting and broken people in need of a savior. Many women are making decisions now that will most likely bring them a lot of pain and heartache in the future. To many this is a policy issue and to others it is a freedom issue; I think that it is an issue of prayer for God’s people to stand up for the lives of the unborn.

I will not change someone's mind very often on any subject. I have however, prayed for people and the Lord has changed many people's minds. Over the last several weeks there has been a campaign to pray around the campuses of abortion facilities and because of prayer and people being a bold witness and showing women love, over 300 babies nationwide were given a chance to live. That is a powerful testimony of God blessing the faithfulness of His people.

According to Pew research this nation has a future that is extremely irreligious. Nearly 40% of all Americans aged 18-49 would consider themselves atheist right now. That should be a great enough reason to be praying and working to spread awareness of who God is and how much He loves people. It should not surprise us that people are acting in opposition to God and His commandments when a majority of people don’t know God or believe in the commands that He has given us. If you want to see people in this nation won to Christ, we had better be doing all we can to pray for and show love to each other as well as those that don’t know Him. Pray a lot and God will do a lot of great things like rescuing babies and saving souls for all eternity.

Love ya,

Chris
